Graduate

The Department offers quality research and teaching at the postgraduate level to provide top-notch scientific and research training to successful candidates. In order to meet the needs of the nation’s industrial development agenda, the Department offers a two-year MPhil in Biochemistry by research and a two-year MSc programme in Biotechnology.  There is also a three-year PhD programme in Biochemistry by research with selected taught courses. In addition to the afore-mentioned programmes, MPhil Human Nutrition and Dietetics was introduced in the 2012/2013 academic year.  MSc/MPhil Forensic Science programmes are currently running in normal mode for MPhil and IDL for MSc.

Biochemistry—MPhil /PhD
Admission Requirements

The candidate must have a minimum of first degree in the Life Sciences or Chemistry on condition that the candidate will audit basic Biology/Biochemistry courses. In rare cases where the background is lacking, the student must enroll in undergraduate classes first in order to make up the deficiencies. Biotechnology—MSc/MPhil/PhD
Admission Requirements

Candidates applying for the programme should have adequate background in Biological Sciences/Biochemistry and/or in an appropriate related Sciences or Engineering such as Chemistry, Pharmacy, Agricultural Sciences, Chemical Engineering and Renewable Natural Resources.

Candidates with little or no background in Biological Sciences would be expected to audit some undergraduate courses which should include at least two semesters of Cell Structure Plant and Animal Physiology, Genetics and Biophysics or Analytical Biochemistry as pre-requisites. Human Nutrition and Dietetics—MPhil
Admission Requirements

The course is intended for graduates with BSc first or second class honors degrees or equivalent in Nursing, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Food Sciences, Nutrition, Medicine, Dietetics or related disciplines. Forensic Science—MSc/MPhil
Admission Requirements

Candidates must have a good first degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacy and Human Biology. Candidates who are already employed in the relevant forensic related areas will be considered for admission.
